CANTON, Mo. 鈥� 乱伦社区 students Keelie O鈥橞rien and Steven Walker have been invited to submit one piece each for Varsity Art XXV, the 25th annual group exhibition curated by members of faculty from 22 regional colleges and universities in Missouri and Illinois.

The multi-media invitational visual art exhibition will be presented at Art Saint Louis, 1223 Pine Street in downtown St. Louis, from March 5 to April 1. It will feature works by 44 undergraduate and graduate level art students. This annual exhibit is a collaboration between Art Saint Louis and the participating collegiate institutions, their art faculty and students. Professors are invited to select two outstanding art students to represent their art department and institution in the annual show.

O鈥橞rien is a senior art education major from Kahoka, Mo. Walker is a senior art education major from Palmyra, Mo. This is the second year for Culver-Stockton students to participate in a Varsity Art exhibition.

This year鈥檚 exhibit presents artworks in a variety of media, including ceramics, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and video.

Art Saint Louis is a non-profit art organization now in its fourth decade of enriching lives through the activity of the region鈥檚 visual artists.

Keelie O鈥橞rien from Kahoka, Mo., and Steven Walker of Palmyra, Mo., are finishing their bachelor of science degrees in art education. O鈥橞rien has created a series of pastel landscapes of local country roads and ponds. Walker鈥檚 paintings are large and very colorful. Both students also will be representing Culver-Stockton when they exhibit their work in the Arts St. Louis Gallery in the spring.

Students completing their bachelor of fine arts degrees in graphic design are Kaitlyn Schneider of Foley, Mo., Max Phillips of Pittsfield, Ill., and Dakota Hudson of Taylorville, Ill. Schneider鈥檚 designs are bubbly and fun, meant to bring out a happy, creative energy. Phillips has an inclusive alternative clothing brand inspired by the designs of April Grieman, one of the first American designers to embrace computer technology as a design tool. Hudson says her work is dark and macabre, yet simple and chic.

The capstone exhibits will be open for viewing only to students, staff and faculty of Culver-Stockton, but they also can be viewed on the Culver-Stockton website at culver.edu/senior-capstone. CANTON, Mo. 鈥� 鈥淕rowth,鈥� a pen and ink drawing of mushrooms by Taylor Pitford, a senior from Montrose, Iowa, and a self-portrait with his face painted like a clown by Nevin McNally, a senior from Quincy, Ill., were judged best in show as part of the annual Honors Art Exhibit at 乱伦社区 in May.

The exhibit highlights the top artwork created in an art department course at Culver-Stockton during the past academic year. Students may submit any number of entries, and the art department faculty selects the top 100. Juror Billyo O鈥橠onnell, a plein air artist from St. Louis, was the juror who chose this year鈥檚 top pieces.

The President’s Choice was given to McNally for his oil painting of a dog. President Dr. Kelly M. Thompson selects a piece that will hang in the president鈥檚 office for the next year.

Steven Walker of Palmyra, Mo., won the Charles Meyer Award. Meyer, who died in 2012, started taking art classes at C-SC when he was in his late 80s, and his family annually provides a $100 award during the exhibit. The winner is selected by the C-SC art department faculty.

Keelie O鈥橞rien of Kahoka, Mo., and Walker also shared the Virginia Carter Ahrens Award given to the most promising junior student.

Merit awards were given to:

• Megan Ferry of Kansas City, Mo., for her computer enhanced photo called 鈥淎bstract Landscape.鈥�
• Max Phillips of Pittsfield, Ill., for her poster of the Icelandic rock band Sigur Ros.
• Walker for an oil painting of a self-portrait.
• O鈥橞rien for a felt bowl.
• Markia McCullough of Hazelwood, Mo., for her acrylic painting of a self-portrait.

Honorable mention awards were given to:

• Christopher Peter of St. Peters, Mo., for his graphic design of a propaganda poster.
• Carlee Hummel of Pittsburgh, Pa., for her pencil drawing of a self portrait.
• Analiese Meany of Ewing, Mo., for her mixed media collage called 鈥淜eep Healing Nature,鈥� a series of art and nature during a pandemic.
• Phillips, for her enhanced color photo of a student.
• Kerri MaGraw of Union, Mo., for her photo titled 鈥淟andslide Brought Me Down.鈥�
