The ceremony was held during the Business Department honors celebration held in the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center auditorium. The 2020 inductees were also recognized at the ceremony since no formal ceremony was conducted last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the guidance of chapter advisor, Jim Cosgrove, professor of business, the following Culver-Stockton students were added to Sigma Beta Delta in recognition of their high academic achievement and willingness to pursue a life of wisdom, honor and aspirations:

Undergraduate candidates:

  • Maxwell Blaschke, a junior marketing and sport management major from Maple Plain, MN
  • Gracie Bunge, a junior accountancy and finance major from Golden, IL
  • Brooke Bishop, a senior healthcare management major from Strafford, MO
  • Madison Drummond, a junior international business major from Winterset, IA
  • Alexander George, a junior business administration major from Canton, MO
  • Lexie Gordanier, a junior business administration major from Hannibal, MO
  • Madelyn Haley, a junior accountancy major from Liberty, IL
  • Thomas Hendren, a senior accountancy major from Palmyra, MO
  • William Knake, a junior business administration major from Havana, IL
  • Montserrat Caparros Rodriguez, a senior business administration and finance major from Barcelona, Spain

Master of Business Administration candidates:

  • Gerard Bruscino, an MBA student with a specialization in management from Burraneer, Australia
  • Sarah Lung, an MBA student with a specialization in management from Camp Point, IL
  • Lisa Rainey, an MBA student with a specialization in healthcare management from St. Louis, MO

Maria Berhorst, lecturer in business, was also inducted into Sigma Beta Delta as an honorary member. Berhorst received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 2004 and her master’s degree with a focus in nursing administration from Walden University in Minneapolis in 2006.

Sigma Beta Delta was founded in January 1994 and established to honor students who have attained superior records in business programs in schools and colleges with regional accreditation. Membership in Sigma Beta Delta is the highest national recognition a business student can receive at a college or university with a Sigma Beta Delta chapter.

More than 400 chapters have been established in 47 states and internationally. Sigma Beta Delta has more than 80,000 members.

CANTON, Mo. — Eleven ÂÒÂ×ÉçÇø students were inducted May 13 into Theta Iota chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association’s official honor society at four-year colleges and universities. The ceremony was held via Zoom, an online video conferencing app, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chapter advisor Tyler Tomlinson, a lecturer in communication, welcomed the inductees. Chapter president Sabrina Kalips, a senior media communication major from Granite City, Ill., inducted the new members.

  • Samuel Baillie, a junior public relations major from Gibson City, Ill.
  • Jessica Beaver, a junior media communication and English major from Quincy, Ill.
  • Hailey Frutiger, a junior media communication major from Orion, Ill.
  • Ryan Gibson, a junior public relations major from Hudson, Ill.
  • Brody Hassel, a junior sports communication major from Seminole, Fla.
  • William Knake, a junior media communication major from Havana, Ill.
  • Nicholas Luciani, a senior sports communication major from Georgetown, Ontario, Canada
  • Nsasa Makanda, a junior sports communication major from Louisville, Ky.
  • Ashley Miller, a junior public relations major from Baylis, Ill.
  • Danielle Thurman, a junior media communication major from Bonne Terre, Mo.
  • Quentin Wells, a junior media communication major from Kahoka, Mo.

Fred Berger, senior lecturer of communication, recognized Kalips and Luciani for being named outstanding communication graduates at the Honors Day Convocation on May 12.  Kalips and Luciani also presented abstracts of their senior theses research. Kalips studied the “Spiral of Silence” theory and female journalists, and Luciani explored the “Uses and Gratifications” theory as it related to live-Tweeting major events.

Baillie was named incoming president of the local chapter for 2020-21.

According to the National Communication Association, Lambda Pi Eta became a part of the NCA in 1988 and the association’s official honor society in July 1995 with more than 500 active chapters nationwide. It is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.

Lambda Pi Eta represents what Aristotle described in Rhetoric as three ingredients of persuasion: logos (Lambda), meaning logic; pathos (Pi), relating to emotion; and ethos (Eta), defined as character credibility and ethics.

CANTON, Mo. – ÂÒÂ×ÉçÇøÂ inducted 13 students into the Missouri Beta chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society during a ceremony on April 17 in the Carl Johann Memorial Library on the ÂÒÂ×ÉçÇø campus.

Faculty co-sponsors Scott Giltner and Alissa Burger welcomed the new members into the society. Lauren Schellenberger, interim vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College, delivered this year’s charge to the inductees, family and friends.

The students inducted into Alpha Chi were:

  • Mackenzi Anderson, an accounting and finance major from Dallas City, Ill.;
  • Kehley Bitzas, a psychology major from Greenvale, Victoria in Australia;
  • Vanessa Bolen, a psychology major from Beardstown, Ill.;
  • Alex DeWitt, an accountancy major from Canton, Mo.;
  • Megan Erickson, a legal studies major from Port Byron, Ill.;
  • Kailee Gaither, an accounting and finance major from Canton, Mo.;
  • Donald Hegg, a business administration major from Quincy, Ill.;
  • Carly Harper, an English education major from Foristell, Mo.;
  • Kelley Hufendick, an elementary education major from Quincy, Ill.;
  • Agustin Mosquera, a business administration major from San Isidro, Buenos Aires in Argentina;
  • Christopher Peter, an art major from St. Peters, Mo.;
  • Sydney Scott, a psychology and criminal justice major from Metropolis, Ill.;
  • Shelby Winn, a psychology and criminal justice major from Granite City, Ill.

Alpha Chi honors juniors and seniors in the top 10 percent of their class. Founded in 1922, Alpha Chi has more than 300 chapters nationally and works toward the goal of “Making Scholarship Effective for Good.”
